How to delete $Windows.~WS / $WINDOWS.~BT folder for windows 11/10/8/7 ~ AwesomePC

After upgrade to Windows 10 there were still folders $Windows~BT and $Windows~WS on the C Drive.

This upgrading will automatically create these folders $Windows.~BT and $Windows~WS containing all files related to your previous Windows system. And the previous installation can help you to go back to your Windows to a previous version if you don't like the new version or have problems in it. $Windows.~BT Folder and $Windows~WS Folder can take up much disk space after upgrading which you notice C Driver is full, low Space or get notification from windows C Drive need to clean up.

First we need to know how to find and show the $Windows~WS hidden Folder

Open This PC (My Computer) Go to C driver Click on VIEW then Options, table will pop up. Click on VIEW and then select'' Show hidden files, folders, and drivers'' click OK

* Now we will delete $WINDOWS.~BT folder and How to Delete $Windows~WS folder

*- 1st Method Using Command Prompt Force delete Manually

Right-click on Start button to open the WinX Menu. Select Command Prompt (Admin) or Click on your keyboard (Windows key+R) and type CMD.

Copy-paste the following and hit Enter to delete the contents of $Windows.~BT directory

takeown /F C:\$Windows.~BT\* /R /A

icacls C:\$Windows.~BT\*.* /T /grant administrators:F

rmdir /S /Q C:\$Windows.~BT\

Now copy-paste the following and hit Enter to delete the contents of $Windows.~WS directory

takeown /F C:\$Windows.~WS\* /R /A

icacls C:\$Windows.~WS\*.* /T /grant administrators:F

rmdir /S /Q C:\$Windows.~WS\

If this works, you will see a Successfully processed message. if no go for 2nd method

*- 2nd method Using Windows Disk Cleanup

Open This PC (My Computer) Click with right of Mouse on C Driver, click Properties

Click Disk Cleanup

Click Clean up system files

Select all files

Now your windows will cleanup all unwanted files and it will delete $WINDOWS.~BT folder and Delete $Windows~WS folder.
